What Grand Blanc businesses film from the air
Golf is the most visible aerial subject in Grand Blanc. Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club opened in 1957, hosted the Buick Open for decades and has hosted the Ally Challenge since 2018, according to the club’s history page. Its organizers describe the Ally Challenge as a 54-hole PGA Tour Champions event with a $2.2 million purse, and the 2027 edition is set for August 23 to 29. Clubs across the area use drone video for membership, outing and wedding marketing, where a view from above shows hole routing, water and the clubhouse in one frame.
Beyond golf, the Henry Ford Genesys Hospital campus on Genesys Parkway, which the health system describes as a Level III adult trauma center, generates recruiting and facilities content. Builders and agents need aerial photography of new subdivisions and the ponds and wooded lots that sell them. Retail and office property along Saginaw Street and the Holly Road corridor needs site, parking and access views for leasing, and contractors document projects with repeat flights from fixed points.
Grand Blanc sits on the edge of Flint’s Class C
According to the FAA’s Class Airspace data, Bishop International Airport (FNT) has Class C airspace from the surface to 4,800 feet MSL in a circle about 5 nautical miles around the field, with an outer shelf that starts at 2,100 feet MSL. Grand Blanc falls right where the two meet. Our point checks put downtown around City Hall, Physician’s Park, the Genesys campus and Warwick Hills under the shelf, where the controlled airspace starts roughly 1,200 feet above the ground. A drone videographer flying under 400 feet there needs no LAANC authorization.
The northwest side is different. Grand Blanc Township Hall on Saginaw Street and Creasey Bicentennial Park fall inside the surface area, where every commercial flight needs FAA authorization. LAANC is available, and the FAA facility map ceilings are 200 feet around the Hill Road corridor and 400 feet farther south and west. Facility map squares overlap the boundary, so an app can show a grid over an address that is actually outside the Class C. We check the boundary itself for northwest addresses and confirm conditions in B4UFLY or a LAANC app on the day, since temporary flight restrictions can appear at short notice.
Hospital, club and township rules
The Genesys campus has its own FAA-listed heliport, and medical helicopters approach low. We fly there only with the hospital’s permission and keep a spotter on the sky. Warwick Hills is a private club, so course shoots happen at the club’s invitation, and during Ally Challenge week the gallery rules out most flight paths because Part 107 limits flying over people. Township parks are run by Grand Blanc Township Parks and Recreation, and we call ahead before any commercial shoot there. Everywhere else we launch from private property with the owner’s written permission.
Light and seasons
Golf aerials look best from late May through early October, when fairways are green and the course is fully mowed. Early morning light across the fairways, before play starts, gives long shadows and empty holes. October color in the wooded subdivisions helps residential listings. Twilight flights, legal under Part 107 with anti-collision lighting, suit the hospital campus and lit retail storefronts.
Planning a Grand Blanc shoot
Send the address, date window and what you need to deliver. We check which side of the Class C line the site is on, the tournament and event calendar and landowner permission before we send a fixed quote.
